In 1942 Castleton China asked the MoMA to locate a designer to create "the first American fine china."  Zeisel was selected and designed what came to be called Museum Dinnerware.  It's enthusiastic reception at a one-woman show in 1945 led Zeisel to say "I knew I had arrived."  Not released  for wide consumer sales until 1949 it became immensely popular for its delicacy and translucence.  Castleton commissioned many artists to create a variety of patterns, and many shapes were later marketed with different bottom stamps for specialized markets.  All of ours are bottom stamped unless otherwise noted.

White -

5 saucers, 6-1/2" and appear unused, no bottom stamp. $15.00 each

6 flatcups, 4-1/2".  A-1 condition. no bottom stamps.  $20.00 each

2 flatcups, 4-1/2" - A-1 condition $25.00 each

Wisteria -

Branches and blossoms in soft tones of purple, lavender, mauve, and gray.

 Shenango China artisans created this commemorative plate in

recognition of the United Nations "Year of the Child" in 1979, using the Museum Ware 8" luncheon plate.  Were you born in 1979? $30.00

A pair of commemorative plates (using Museum Ware 10" plates) made in 1976, saluting two Native American Iroquois heroes of the Revolution.  Corn Planter (Gxantwahia) and Red Jacket (Sogoyewatha).  The portraits are by F. Bartoli and Charles Bird King, respectively.  Bottom stamp: Castleton Collectors Society.

French Garden -

The pattern is a delightful array of floating flowers created by the famous French artist, Marcel Vertes.

10 salad plates, 8-1/4", HTF, unfortunately 6 of these have very minor rim chips.  The others are in VERY GOOD condition with slight use marks.
